Drain Installation, Repair, and Maintenance in Port St. Lucie | Florida Hardscape Creations

When adding new surfaces to your landscape, it’s essential to consider how water naturally flows in the area. Impervious surfaces like roofs, driveways, and patios increase stormwater runoff, which picks up oil, dust, and other pollutants as it travels over the ground.

This excess runoff, if left unmanaged, flows through yard drainage systems, gutters, and downspouts before emptying into nearby lakes, streams, and oceans. Improper drainage and stormwater runoff can cause serious problems, including:

  • Pollution of waterways, harming wildlife and reducing water quality
  • Clogged storm drains leading to residential flooding
  • Erosion of stream banks and hillsides from increased water volume
  • Beach and lake closures due to contaminated water
  • Structural damage to homes and buildings
  • Damage to interior spaces
  • Death of plants, trees, and grass
  • Mosquito breeding in stagnant water
  • Mold growth both inside and outside structures
  • Short- and long-term health risks
  • Costly repairs

Because of these risks, proper drainage is crucial to protect both your property and the environment. Federal, state, and local regulations require homeowners and property managers to manage stormwater effectively. Installing a well-designed drainage system is the best way to control water flow and prevent damage.

Watch for signs of drainage problems such as:

  • Standing water that remains 24 hours after heavy rain
  • Foul, stagnant water odors
  • Water intrusion through doors, basements, or garages

Our Drainage Solutions Include:

01 SURFACE & SUBSURFACE

Subsurface drainage is the most effective way to relieve “hydro-static” pressure and lower the water table around your home’s foundation. This type of system not only captures any water beneath your floor but also captures and releases any water in cinder block or stone foundation walls.

Surface drains are known to act in a very regulated manner as they direct the watercourse to the right path. There are different types of surface drains available. They find use in situations where excessive water has accumulated due to rainfall, increasing losses from the conveyance channels, over irrigation, water run-off from areas of high elevation. These drains provide a steady and spontaneous mechanism for drainage of surface water. The installation process of surface drains is relatively less labor intensive. They are easier to install and maintain. However, frequent monitoring and cleaning are required for them to function to the best of their potential

02 FRENCH DRAINS

If you are in search of an effective way to divert rainwater and other runoff away from the foundation of your home in the Carolinas, a French drain might be just what you need.

French drains are commonly utilized water redirection systems that can be installed relatively easily. They are most commonly used to prevent backyards or other areas from flooding. First, a trench is dug from the area that is prone to flooding to the area you wish to have the water redirected. Next, a length of perforated pipe known as “weeping tile” is placed in the trench. Around the weeping tile, the trench is filled in with gravel or rock which helps to distribute the water as it runs out of the slits in the weeping tile. This gravel also stops soil from entering the weeping tile through its venting slits and clogging it up.

03 POND SLOPE STABILIZATION

Pond banks may become slippery slopes for various reasons. Rainwater runoff can cause banks to wash downhill away from ponds or toward them, depending on the grade. Wildlife, particularly ducks and geese, can also degrade banks by trampling them and eating the plants that secure the soil. Pond slope stabilization methods preserve the integrity of a bank by incorporating plantings and rocks to hold the soil in place.

04 SURFACE GRATE & CHANNEL DRAINS

A channel drain system can help redirect excess water from parking lots, driveways, and your valuable landscaping. Don't worry about those heavy semi-tractor-trailers and dump trucks! Commercial channel drains are strong enough to support the weight.

05 COMPLETE WATER MANAGEMENT

Having complete water management for your home includes having a comprehensive package of measures to ensure that water will be effectively drained away from your home, primarily, for new construction homes in the Carolinas.

During construction, we work to ensure that we meet EPA's comprehensive water management requirements to prevent rain and moisture from building up in living areas, attics, basements, crawlspaces, or behind walls.  These water management requirements help ensure that:

Water is directed off the roof, down the walls, and away from the foundation.

Your home is built with moisture-resistant barriers to prevent water damage.

Building materials are protected during construction to minimize the possibility of mold and rotting.

06 DOWNSPOUT DRAINAGE PIPING

Underground downspout drains can be installed to divert a substantial amount of water away from the foundation of your home. Underground downspout drains also eliminate mulch and decorative stone wash out as water is released in a designated turf area and not into a landscape bed. They also provide a cleaner aesthetic appeal compared to above ground extension drain pipes that are a hassle to deal with and end up coming off your downspouts from time to time.

07 LANDSCAPE EROSION CONTROL

Signs that erosion is in your landscape is when you began to notice exposed roots, signs of splashing of soil, or mud on pavement. Rainfall or excess irrigation causes runoff from our lawns, roads, parking lots and farm fields.  Stabilizing the soil on the slope is the answer. Soil in these areas is usually lacking microorganisms and nutrients or suffering from compaction. Ways to control a slope are:

  • Baffles or Barriers
  • Riprap
  • Terraces
  • Plants
  • Temporary remedies
  • Turfgrass
